URGENT - League Secretary

We still need a league secretary for the Northumbria League for next winter season. Please think about this and if you think you can help please contact Aubrey Drapkin.

Schools Contact

Brian Philip has been appointed as schools contact for Northumberland by the English Schools Table Tennis Association. Hopefully, progress may be made in attracting youngsters to schools competitions.

Northern Border Raid

Geoff Salter was the star of the day when several Northumberland players entered the Dumfries tournament. Geoff won the Mens Singles, Veterans Singles and Mens Doubles titles. Steve Penman was runner-up to Geoff in the Mens Singles and Jimmy Scope runner-up in the Veterans. Jimmy also lost to Geoff in the semi-finals of the Mens. Young Calum Main, who is from Dumfries but plays for Cramlington in the Northumbria League, was the other losing semi-finalist and he won the Junior event.

Northfield Junior 2 star event

Several of our younger players took part in the recent Northfield Junior 2 star tournament. Dean Richardson, Ryan Richardson, Ben Dawson (Cramlington) and Ellis Cooper all progress through their groups into the knock out stages of the various age groups but unfortunately none of them, despite putting up excellent performances, managed to reach a final. Jack Highmoor (Westgate) could only finish third in his junior group but that did mean that he went into the consolation event. Congratulations to him in gaining a trophy as runner up in his first tournament.

Congratulations

Many congratulations to the winners of the various divisions in the winter league.

In the Premier Division, Birtley A managed to stop Washington A from making it three in a row. Dave Godbold ended up top of the player rankings.

In the First Division, Byker A return straight back to the Premier after winning the division. Jim Balkwill topping the player rankings with an outstanding 98% of wins. He lost one game in the first week of the season and then didn't lose again.

NorthFire B go up as Division 2 champions. Chris Walton topping the player charts with 53 wins, with a 98% record. Chris also only lost one match all season.

Division 3 was a very tight affair but Cramlington Magpies won through in the end. Ben Dawson of the Cramlington Lions was top of the player percentages with 45 wins.

In Division 4 Maccabi dominated the division winning by 25 points. Robert Salmon of the Cramlington Spartans was top of the scoring charts with 72 wins.

Thanks Adrian!

The NTTA would like to pass its thanks to Adrian Barnes for standing in as league secretary. Best wishes to Adrian as he is about to become a father again at the ripe old age of 50!
