Umpires
Have you ever thought about becoming a qualified umpire?
If you're reading
this site you are probably involved in Table Tennis, most likely as a player,
and the basic requirement of learning the rules is certainly one way of resolving
all those little disputes that arise from time to time. And, although this may be
harder to believe, it can also be very enjoyable.
As a County Association Northumberland has a very good record in producing 'new'
umpires, having qualified 4 County Umpires 2 years ago, and having 2 more who have
passed their theory and await their practical tests.
As a County Umpire you can oversee matches at most levels in this country,
although further qualifications are necessary for International duties. Those
of us who qualified in 2006 have umpired at the Newcastle Grand Prix,
Stockton 4 Star and Billingham 2 Star Junior Tournaments, and the
Premier Division of the British League, which is the country's
highest level club competition.
If you wish to you can also receive invitations to umpire in the various Grand Prix,
Junior and Senior County Championships, Junior and Senior British League and various
other competitions throughout the country.
As an umpire you will see the very best players from the best seat in the house - and it won't cost you a penny!
As well as County Umpire it is also possible to take Local Umpire and Junior Umpire qualifications.
If any of this sounds of interest to you please contact either Nigel Coe or Aubrey Drapkin for further
information.
